The National Sleep Foundation says that the typical adult needs between 7 and 8 hours of sleep in order to function normally. I cannot remember the last time I had 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Last night I had 7 hours total with 2 different epidsodes of 30 minutes each getting up with Ella and getting her back to sleep. Ella is almost 5 months old. When we brought her home from the hospital she had a rough first few weeks with sleep. She was very unpredictable and would get up 2-3 times per night to be fed. As she's gotten older and bigger she started sleeping for longer spans of time; up until about 3 weeks ago. I'm not really sure what kicked this off but I think we're at a new impasse where Ella just wants to be held and wants the attention. She's not looking for food much anymore, maybe one time per night. She just wants Mommy and Daddy to come in and play! Some of the side effects of minimal sleep can include dizziness, irritability, muscle weakness or soreness, depression and impaired motor functions. I think at some point of the day I experience every one of these.
How old are babies before they start sleeping 6-7 hours in a row?? I love my daughter, but I can't wait until she starts sleeping like my 2 1/2 year old son!! Maks goes to bed without much of a fight (most nights) and gets up between 7 and 7:30am. Ahhhh...a dream... I think I'll be a much nicer person to be around when those days finally roll around!!
